NORTHERN NOTES.
(By "Woolstone.") Otahuhu "Winter Meeting, May 17 and 21. Good nominations. In view of same, things are brightening up at Alexandra Park. Last Saturday morning Wilding and Asturio ran an attractive two miles. Both are very fit, and m the Cup. Gold Boy, the straight-out trotter, has come through a good preparation. He looks up to concert pitch. The returned soldier, Davie Douglas, has a half-sister to Gallipoli m training named Nikora. She looks aa if she will mature early. She Is nominated for Otahuhu. . Ruanui got over a fast twelve furlongs last Saturday morning-. The mare is very fit. Miss Rolfe, who Is a stable mate of Ruanui's, is another that should be a profit producer at Otahuhu. ; On Saturday last, whilst Gold Girl and Hint were wiping out a mile m harness, Lord Rose, m saddle, was scooting along on the outside of the track. There should be a possible "divvy" from L.R. next Saturday. A disappointing animal is Charming Rod, for the pacing gelding always shows a desire to misbehave on the track. One of the most stylish workers at the Park is Gold Rod. J. Paul has him trotting resolutely. Trooper Dillon is doing some useful sprints. Trooper shobld do well m the Royal Oak Handicap, run over a mile. The other • morning Jack o' Diamonds made the pace for Beausant, and led on sufferance at the end of a mile, but they were not up against the watch. Red George, the half-brother to Steel Bell, seems to be striking form. Some horse if she's as good as the relative. There Is nothing that pleases the watchers better than Favor Royal — while he keeps his feet. Mr. Robert Absolum, the new secretary of the Otahuhu Trotting Club, makes his opening bow to .patrons on May ,17- —first day of the winter meeting. Sundial is working attractively since going into W. Cunningham's care. Prince Child is also m commission again. R. Hall sent old Lieutenant over 1 a mile and a-half last Saturday m great style. The Hamilton Cup double winner has nick enough just now to annex more stakes—-perhaps the Otahuhu Cup. Queen Pirate has returned safely from the South none the worse for the trip. . Harold Devon, who did riot do justice to himself at the A.T.C. autumn, looks equal to squaring his oat bill from the Otahuhu gathering. Auckland Girl is. doing nice work, but Lady Lonsdale is apt to leave her feet when pushed at her top. Hardy Wilkes appears amongst the ten nominations for the Otahuhu Cup, and also.in the Dominion Handicap, for which twelve trotters have nominated. Mr. James Pettie talks of clearing out his trotting stock. Some good Juveniles, broken and unbroken, m the lot if the sale comes off. =
