THE DEADHEAD'S DIARY

Norma Talmadge's next appearance m this part of the world will .be m the Select feature "The Moth" which, as the title indicates, shows fascinating Norma playing with fire. s : : s ; : Gloria Swanson, now starring- for Triangle, carries off some dizzy stunts m "Station Content." However, she has until lately been a Keystone girl, and has consequently been brought up on dizzy stunts, so to speak. J. Barney Sherry is the man who has played the millionaire so often that he finds it difficult not to believe he is one. In the latest Triangle, "Who Killed Walton?" he has rather a different role, and carries it off finely. It is an exciting story, with love to light the way to a happy ending. A picture which is due for release shortly m New Zealand is the Triangle feature "I Want My Children," or "The Master of His Home." The theme, although undoubtedly daring, deals delicately with a great social vice, and should not only create a considerable stir, but should also have an immense influence for good. The moving picture industry, which ranks, as the sixth greatest industry m ;the United States, is recognised as more powerful even than the press m its influence'on public thought and feeling. It is therefore not surprising that it has been adjudged by Provost-Marshal General CrowdeV to be essential to the prosecution dfrthe war. . .vCV'N.'°and A. M. Williamson, the autoniotiile novelists, who have charmed the world with stories of love and limousines, l.lfave'had their famous book "The Scarlet Runner" placed on the screen as a serial by Vitagraph. Earle Williams is the handsome hero, and the various episodes move as rapidly as a Rolles-Royce. , It is now showing m the Dominion. Ethel Clayton has a congenial role in ' the World feature "Journey's End." She plays the part of a wife whose worse half gets into the toils of a vampire. To win him back she pretends to play, his own game. What is sauce for the gander is sauce for the goose. It makes a dramatic and powerful story. Muriel Ostriche, John Bowers and Frank Mayo have prominent parts. All wives should see it. . There are some startlingly fresh scenes m the latest Select drama "Scandal." The theme is original. A rather wayward young society lady gets into a somewhat scandalous position, and to escape the anger of her parents she pretends to be secretly married to a man, who, by the way, does not want a wife, imitation or otherwise. It all seems to her a fine joke. But not for long. He says: "You have told everybody you are my wife. Very well, you are my wife." And he proceeds to treat her accordingly; From her point of view the situation becomes quite alarming.. There is a distinct French quality about the story, which might be described as piquant. Constance Talmadge plays the star-part most charmingly, and is wonderfully convincing. The moral of the play is, if you want an imitation husband, don't choose a real man for the purpose. :
