[It has been quoted m the press, as proof of the wages paid to the Wellington tram -men, that for a fortnight's wages a first-class anotorman (a married man with four children, who has been m the service eleven . years) worked 98 hours during' the fortnight; and received £6 11s, plus 6s 7d war bonus, a total, of £6 17s 7d for ordinary time. ■ In addition he received 6s 7d for overtime. Based on the pre-war purchasing power of money, the above wages, with overtime, works out at about £2 8s 9d per week. — Ed. "T."]
