The S.M's Query. When a grey-headed, elderly lady, Buffering from both deafness and poverty, ' appeared before Magistrate .Frazer on "Agony Day" at the Wellington S.M's Court, on Monday last, with an application for a maintenance oVder against her son, who resides m Napier, the Magistrate remarked that he had an application to take the son's evidence m Napier, and that he had before him a letter from the young man's wife. Witness: His wife! What wife? Mr. Frazer: I don't know which wife. Has he got more than one? Witness: He has a wife and child; m London. After a prolonged search ; m her voluminous garments the witness produced a cabinet photograph of a mother and daughter and informed the bench that this was a counterfeit , presentment of her son's wife and daughter m London. . Mr. Frazer: I think this is a matter for you to deal with, Senior -Sergeant Willis. The photograph and the accompanying letter were thereupon handed over to th'e police with instructions to make inquiries, the old lady protesting volubly that she wanted the photograph back, and consenting quietly to a three weeks' adjournment on the assurance that her treasured picture would "be returned to her.
