WARNING TO ALL TRADES UNSONESTS ■ j The National Efficiency Board has made certain recommendations for total and immediate prohibition of the manufacture and sale of all alcoholic liquors. You are being urged to believe that these recommendations of the Efficiency Board are m your interests and worthy of your approval and support. Just how far the Efficiency Board considers you and your Unions is best shown by the Board's recommendations on Trade Unionism. If these were carried out they would weaken your Unions and destroy the advantages that you have gained by patient years of labour. Ask yourselves whether the following recommendations of the Efficiency Board are m the interests of the workers and their organisations :— (Extract from report of National Efficiency Board) : — Amongst the powers whioh should be provided for by legislation the following appear to be moat necessary:— (1.) The suspension of all apprenticeship clauses which m any way limit the employment of boys or girls. (2.) The suspension of all clauses m awards which place any restriction upon the employment of unskilled persons. (3.) The suspension of ALL clauses m awards which prevent the employment of women IN ANY CAPACITY. (4.) The suspension of all trade-union rules, agreements, or trade customs which m any way restirct the employment of any person, male or female. Etc., Etc Read the above clauses again carefully and then decide whether the National Efficiency Board which brought forward such proposals had any thought for your interests when framing its proposals for the carrying into effect of NATIONAL PROHIBITION. As promoters and supporters of the labour movement of New Zealand, you ate taking a keener interest m the economic questions of the day than any other class m our community. Your decision m this as. m other questions may be safely left. to your judgment; but it is necessary that you should discriminate between genuine sympathy and interest and the propaganda of opportunist organisations.
