Alien Enemies
Two More from Christchurch. A City Council DiscuWion. During the week —Wednesday to be precise —the military authorities escorted to Somes Island two enemy aliens, who formerly belonged to Christchurch; not Wellington, as tha "Post" stated. These aliens are Heinrich Carl Becker, of Sydenham, a gelatinemaker, who , was employed by a Christchurch meat company* and A. Diering, an accountant, of Christchurch. Tho reasons for the internment of these men have not been given. . ' The alien question was discussed at the Wellington City Council's • meeting on Thursday evening • last, when a remit was .received from the Gisborne Borough Council suggesting that the Government should be i sked to intern all enemy aliens. Various views were expressed, the-, most intelligent being that of Coun-'' cillor Barber, who did not see whyf men should be conscripted and seni ; to the Avar for ss'-'a! day. while alien^ ; were left at large : to buy the busi^ V nesses of the men who went to the F front. As the matter was referred to the Finance Committee, we presume that will, be the end of it. ;
