Ashburton Agitated
The Military Authorities Explain : In "Truth's" issue of July 6, prominence was given to the position of a well-known man of Ashburton, named Douglas Wright, and about whom quite an agitation had been raised. The attention of the Defence Department has been drawn to the matter, and the position of Douglas Wright is thus set forth: Wright, when medically examined on October 18, 1917, was classified Cl. As the result of two medical certificates which lie subsequently produced, a re-examination was authorised by the medical, . authorities and Wright agiin came before ' a medical board and was classed C2. It was then considered advisable to have THIS C 2 CLASSIFICATION • ; again tested, and Wright accordingly 1 was called up to appear before a Special C 2 Medical Board and this board again classed him C2. In the opinion of two medical boards, including the Special C 2 Board, Wright is therefore unfit for service. Incidentally it might be pointed out that he is nearly 43 years of age. The statements made m Ashburton are no doubt due to the somewhat strong feeling' against this man, and while the military authorities are anxious to get every single recruit available, they cannot of cours* send unfit men to camp.
