THE CURIOUS CORLES

They Were Willing to Part But She Wanted His Wages First (From "Truth's" Auckland Rep.) Each wearing a beautiful black eye, Frederick Plutcho Corles and his/ spouse, Joan Josephine Corles, settled their differences quite amicably 'with theWassistance of Magistrate Frazer, at t,he Auckland S.M.s Court on Tuesday last. Complainant wanted Freddy ...-prohibited, and as defendant offered no opposition. "BOOZE" WAS PLACED ON THE ' BLACK LIST so far as he was concerned. Then complainant remarked that she wanted a separation too. ' His Worship: What's up? Have you been fighting? Complainant: "I always get a punch every week. He holds me while his sons* punch me. and he has told me 1 was only wanted to rear his children and then I could go." She added that sho could work for herself, and as he had told her ho was going to get a separation she wanted one too. Defendant seemed quite willing to have the separation order granted and did not seem to be too particular about who got it. Seeing Just how things were, his Worship advised complainant to go and make out a formal application for separation. ■ v She did so on the ground of persistent cruelty, and later on, on oath, said she had been married thirty years, and had a son 27 years of age. She lived m Grey-street with her 14-year-old daughter and very often her husband and son would punch her. "He (Freddy) struck me the other week, and I HIT HIM BACK," she said, "i struck him with a knife, but 1 am satislled to get £ 1 a week for myself and child. Why, one of my sontj don't speak to mo." His Worship (to defendant): Do you agree to pay JL'l a week to your wif<-? Defendant: Certainly, but I don't admit persistent 'cruelty. His Worship: Separation order made, and by consor.t defendant is ordered to pay 15s for tho wife and &s for the child each week. Complainant was given custody of tho girl. Defendant: It Is pretty awkward for me. You «c«» 1 have to get my things and I suppose I have to got out of tho house .straight away. Complainant: 1 won't put him out till he iH'ts his w«g«3.
