" KURE-ALL " KUGELMAN

THE COVE WHO CURES CATARRH CIRCULARISES HIS CLIENTS l| THIS. COUNTRY A Matter for Ik Close Consideration of toe Authorities

"The Cove W^io Cures Catarrh," as "Truth" styled that peculiar individual, H. E. Kugelman, who trades as' H. E. Kugelman and Company, wholesale botanic druggists, whose headquarters, are m Melbourne, apparently regards himself as a man with a grievance, "or at any rate an individual who has been very harshly dealt with by the authorities in\this country. It will be remembered that this man Kugelman came over from Australia arid imVnediately set out to utilise the advertising space of the dally newspapers to boom himself as a curer of every ill that, flesh is heir to, and published what purported to be a number—an axceadIngly^ large number-f-of testimonials ; from v individual's m difaererit parts of Australia, who believed themselves cured, or at any rate, stated that thoy had been cured of the most dreadful diseases by Kugelman. These testl- | monials were very old ones, indicating as ' they did, that Kugelman for very many ':'. years Vas _'. been "playing the game" m, Australia,, and that recently he. decided on exploiting what he considered to be the very rich field of New Zealand. That New Zealand is not a "Tom Tiddler's Ground" for the quack and the cure-all has been made very plain ,on more than, one occasion, and as "Truth" readers who have interested themselves, m the, matter are aware, a., very warm welcome, was NOT extended to Herman' Einil Kugelman, who instead of devoting himself to the euro and eradication of the deadly "disease of cancer, as he did m past years m Australia, set himself up ns a sort of miracle-worker where ■ the very common complaint of catairh was concerned. > .'-.<■■■ Fortunately, or unfortunately ' for those who suffer from this particular complaint, and who might have been duced to "try their luck" with H. E. Kugelman and his wonderful cureshe professed to cvr t e where all others failed — the authorities m New Zealand, after considering the pretensions or promises of Kugelman, as advertised m the dally newspapers ( all over the ' Dominion, came, to the conclusion that the l»o»---balist, or whatever he styled nimaMf, was contravening the very 4«xcellut provisions of the QUACKERY PREVENTION ACT, and shut down on him .with enthusiasm and aii energy not usually shown. The result was that Kugelman w4s blacklisted. Correspondence was forbUUl *n with him, that is to say the postal authorities would not deliver postal matter to him, and what was more, \o Customs authorities undertook *n pvovent any or his herbs,' pills or poUt>«»s being landed m this counfry. Consoqueatly/;. ,the-;resuk waSy.yaryr unpleasant for H. E. Kugelman and Co., who had set Up an establishment m Dijconstreet, Wellington. Kuyelman has since-

left New Zealand, and whether It Is his Intention to return to Now Zealand this paper Ih unawnre. It Ja the case that quite a number of people* conaulted him, nnd ho undertook tc treat them. Whether his treatment ia another contravention of tho Act m question or any other Act of Parliament, "Truth" doeH not know, but it Hhould be tho duty of Homebody oj other to sco that those people, who ditf "port" with their t>ood money to Kugelman are reimbursed, seeing that they havo been prevented from having further truck with tho "Mighty Medicine Man." However. what nppenra to "Truth" to be an attempt on tho part of Kugelman. or, il might be, somebody acting for Kugelman and Co., to defeat the provlaiona of the Quackery Prevention Act, and bo hoodwink th« Cubtom« and Postal authorities, la contained m a type-written circular, which haa been forwarded to "Truth," and which no doubt has been Bent to .many people In New Zealand who commenced to deal with Kugelman on the occasion of hi* ' REGENT VISIT TO THIS COUNTRY. We flnd, upon examination that thin circular, which *et» forth who and what tlu» H. K. KußOlman and Co. concern Ik, dates tho lottor or circular Welling* ton. 10th January. 1317. and nJ«v VO6/lOS Klng-*irvei. Melbourne. We Icorn that the hcadquaricra of the concern are at Melbourne, al«o with brunches at Auckland, Wanpunui, Chrixiohur'ch, Dunedin. Sydney,, Adelaide, lirisbanp. find all chief Autlra* Uan centre*. Perth, we note, In omit-

ted. No doubt the prosecution and. cpnviction of Kugelman for a breach of the Westralian equivalent of New Zealand's anti-quackery legislation has something to do with the omission/. I The oircular then proceeds ' ' Dear 'Madam,— I avail myself ot this opportunity 'to write to you relative to your case, about which you consulted me m New Zealand. Not- having heard from you as to~begin"nihg ray treatment for your cure, it has occurred tom e thai it might be' more convenient for'vou to obtain half a course at a time, that is. 56 days' supply Instead of ,112 days' supply, which .would be just half the amount, remlttilncte for which please sehtf- on tome to Wellington, addressed as' shown below, when I will at' once prepare and forward to your address from Wellington the necessary course of medicines and same will; contain full instructions' as to hovr they aro . to bY taken or used . i No doubt; you are a war© that I jhave,, had ,to fight the Medical |Uriions all over Australia for the ijPast SO years, and am now doing „ -the same m New Zealand. You see, they do not want mo to cure what they regard as incurable and -utterly fail to cure themselves, and consequently, try all sorts of underhand and cowardly methods to prevent me, but It is of no use. Right must prevail. Horbal medicines are the only natural mcdl- ; cines, and to quote: "The Loaves * of the Trees shall be for the Healing of the Nations." Surely, that is quite as trlto and true to-day, as It' was m Scripture five thousand years ago. In order for letters now to reach me,' it will be necessary to send them under separate cover, that is, to address the letter to me, to , 106/108 King-street, Melbourne, and then enclose it m another enveldpe, addressed ns follows: Mr. W. Bishop, 05 Dixon-street, Wellington, and then Mr. Bishop will forward all letters on to me per each mail from my Wellington office. Awaiting, your reply, v Tours faithfully, H. E. KUGELMAN. "Truth" does not.think that comment on its part will carry the matter tiny further. This paper could express tin but It thlnUs the publication of this circular, uud the, suggestion that the authorities should look into the matter will suffice. ■•"•.-.
