POLICE PROMOTIONS

The Latest Re-shuffle Some Cross-Country Travelling New Sub- Inspectors Appointed. Sometime ago, when it was stated that ex- Commissioner of Police John Cullen was about to retire on superannuation, "Truth" announced, among: other things, the pending retirement of Police Inspector Wilson, of Wanganui. Incidentally, m addition to predicting that Superintendent John O'Donovan, of Wellington^ would succeed Mr. Cullen as Commissioner, "Truth" was able to announce that following the appointment of a successor to Superintendent O'Donovan and the retirement of Inspector Watson, there would be some very IMPORTANT POLICE CHANGES. "Truth" very accurately forecasted the changes as events have since proved. Superintendent O'Donovan has been appointed Police Commissioner, and a popular appointment it has proved. Inspector Watson has retired with the honorary rank of Superintendent. Inspector Norwood, formerly bf Invercargill, though earlier of Wellington, as Sub-inspector, has been promoted to the rank of Superintendent m Wellington, and following both these, the retirement and the promotion, a rather interesting list* of promotions and transfers has been published, which all more or less bear out "Truth's" earlier forecast. ' Inspector Hendrey, of Wellington, has been transferred to Wanganui, vice Inspector Wllscjn, and ' there is good' reason for believing, that at an early date, Mr. Hendrey will TAKE RANK AS SUPERINTENDENT. It is believed that Inspector McGrath. m charge of the Napier district, .early retiring aftcrv.many years of very active service, and this retirement will m itself necessitate further promotions and transfers. As also indicated by "Truth," Subinspector Marsack, of Palmerston North,, formerly Chief-detective "at Auckland, has been promoted to the rank of Inspector m charge at Wai-' lington, and Sub-inspector McKinnon, of Wellington, proceeds to Palmerston >( North. It is very likely that. Sub-in-Ipector McKinnon will bo among the new inspectors who will be later on appointed. -; - ' Superintendent Norwood's vacated position as Inspector at Tnvercargill will be filled by Inspector Sheehan, of Auckland, and this officer, who has a splendid record, and long service to boot, is said to be also m the running for the office of Superintendent. Mr, Sheehan will be followed at Auckland by Sub-inspector Fouhy, of New Plymouth, who will take- the rank of Inspector. ■"■•..■ A not altogether unexpected transfer is that of Sub-inspector McYlwney, of Auckland, who goes down to New Plymouth m lieu of the newly appointed Inspector. Fouhy. Sub- inspector Mcllveney's successor at Auckland will be Sub-inspector Broberg, of Dunedin, whose alleged recent absence from the dour city caused much speculation, and INDIGNATION ON "BOB'S" PART at the idea of "Truth" daring ..to*' Inquire the why and wherefore of his alleged absence. However, tho transfer of "Bob" from Dunedin to the more important district, of Auckland must be regarded m the light of promotion, and ''Truth" accordingly offers its congratulation. Sub-inspector Brobor is certainly a capable officer, and hns certainly justified his promotion, from the rank of Chlef-deteotlve at Wellington to the ra.nk and uniform of Sub-Inspector. The promotion of two Sub-inspec-tors to the rank of Inspector has created vacancies In the sub- Inspectorial ranks, and two very j^pular appointments have beon made. Senior-ser-eant Dew* of Mt. Cook, has beon promoted, and m future will be Sub-In-spector Dew, of Wellington. Sub-In-spector Broberg'a position at Dunedin will be filled by Sub-inspector Mathieson, who has filled the rank of Sen-ior-sergeant at Chrlstehurch. The lastnamed appointment Is A PARTICULARLY WELLDESERVED O^'K as "Big Bill" Is a most capable ofllcer, and his promotion has been well earned, and "Truth" accordingly offers Its congratulations. Dunedln's now Subliuspector can be depended upon to see that law and order Is obeyed m the dour city. There have been ono or two promotions to the rank of Senior-sergeant, and It is expected that m due course a further batch of sergeants will bo announced.
