Boat Harbor Notes

„ "- (By "Boatheok.") 1 The P.N.Y.C. continued its pro- ■ gramme on Saturday last, after the ■ holiday break, with a couple of events 1 : & first and second-class race for the I points aggregate championships. *» ' • • t- 1 , Only three starters m the first-class i ! event and four m the second-class i ] event, does not make pleasant reading. 1 i ■ ■• , * * " I .Both races also proved very uninr ! teresting. The second»class event hap- " ! pened first; /Windward, lolanthe, Rawene and Venus Participating. . ' ••• -.•••■ • » A straggling start saw lolanthe and J Venus get well ahead, and Rawene j started seven minutes late. I -f • . • Windward then established a lead, 3 and being smartly handled, romped . . home a good quarter of an hour m 3 front of anything else. Venus and lolanthe foug-ht it out for second place, t and the latter just landed the musl tard. • • • r Rover (scr), Kotiri (3min), and Viola i ' (s%min.), made another straggling 3 j start of it m the first-class event. 1 Viola and Kotiri being together at first with Rover well behind. i * • • * On the run to O"erningbam It was soon, evident that the Rona was out of gear (had not got over the Christmas jag apparently). On the beat to Koro Koro, Viola and Kotiri still hung together, but Kotiri made the best of ' the windward work. r ♦' • • I Then Viola, going about, stood into Ngahauranga and appeared to the writer (who watched the race through glasses from Point Jerningham), to be I making a good board, and looked a I winner. Then something went amiss, I the throat -halliards carrying awjay end things were temporarily up to* putty. Rona was still sailing very badly. ■•• " * ' Kotiri made one ( board to the island 1 and essayed another which should have " brought her to Koro Koro, but through bad\handling she had to make three > boards before she rounded the buoy, and then she did it on the wrong side. Then she sailed for homo on her own. * . ♦ ■ * Viola, after repairs to gear had been effected, crossed the line after Rona, but secured 'second .position on time. • . • . • | The Rona's performance was very ' disappointing, and evidently it was her • unlucky day. # • • ♦' • The owner of the Kotiri won the . race easily,, but writer is still of the | opinion that Rona is the best hooker of the two. * • • * # i Viola, when her gear went wrong, , appeared to have Kotiri well m hand : The P.N.T.C. has now Issued the programme for the rest of the season, and seem to haye catered for every body. Owners should be well satisfied ' with the work of the committee, but 1 the committee will be far from satis - 1 fled with the same owners if they do not enter for events m greater numbers. 1 What is the matter with the firstclass boats? Have owners got a grievance against tho committee? If so, , there Is a proper and straightforward way of airing same. Instead of inau- ! gurating a boycott The sport wants every encouragement these times, and it isn't getting it by a long way.
