TROTTING.

' The Waikato meeting on Saturday passed off.yery successfully. Some of : the events were interesting and some were not. A "roughie" called Merry Maid won the Introductory after a good race with the favorite, Flora Franz. According to the official programme, 6—— — : — , 12 yards ran third m the Introductory. All horses should at least be christened before the, race books are printed. ' A. Cameron appears to have a mortgage on mile races, and he won the Stewards over that distance with August Child. The daughter of Black Child has improved out of all knowledge since Cameron got her. Harold Junior seems to be a bit unlucky, and generally looks a winner till the judge is m sight and then gets topped off. This is how it was m the Stewards when August Child cut him out m the last few strides. The Waikato Cup was a very interesting race, August Child, Harold Jnr., Lucille • and Prince Rufus racing m close company to the home turn. Harold Junior and August Child then fought out a good finish, the first - named winning by half a length. El Rosa was backed by the right party m the Cup, but twice he left bis feet and settled any chance he had. He seems to be an erratic customer at the best of times. ' Lucille showed a lot of pace m the first mile of the Cup, but she then tired and was well beaten out of a place. , There were some good prices at Hamilton. Harold Junior paid, the best price, returning double figures when he won the Cup. ' ; ; Master Park and Ludski both broke up just after the start of the Stewards and settled their chances. Gallipoli, a four-year-old by Ghoai, won the Bracelet very easily from, the favorite, Lovelight. Gallipoli is a useful sort and is sure to win more races. As a result of his win, Mrs. Gillard will soon be wearing a bangle worth a "tenner." The defeats of El Rosa and Flora Ansel would leave a nasty taste m the mouths of backers of horses trained by "Willie" Scott. Strategy was asked to give away 216 yards m the Trotting Cup and never got near the field. While jogging around prior to the start of the Railway Handicap, F. Lapton, who was driving Wildfire, got thrown out of ttie sulky' and badly injured his arm. His place m the seat was taken by G. Robertson, who drove a- fine race and landed Wildfire a short winner over Selkirk. Sweet. Prince was a quiet tip for the Railway, but the blaok horse would not strike a gait till the others were a long way ahead. i Selkirk must have improved a lot since he lost raced. He was then about the slowest beginner imaginable, but on Saturday m both his starts he began well and was only touched off over the last bit each time. How many triers were there m the Claudelands Handicap won by Austurio? • •"'•> "Stipe" Davey had a royal chance to ask a whole book full of questions, after the Claudelands Handicap, but didn't. Aniberite was a warm proposition In the Hamilton Handicap and he won by a week. Hova was second, and one or two of his supporters said nasty tilings when his driver was bringing him back to the. padclock. Dorothy Dimple was on odds- on proposition m the Farewell Handicap and she won, but only after a close finish with Selkirk, i B. Deeley had the ride on Sand Drift m the Farewell, but he could not land the little chestnut a winner, though he mado up a lot of ground.
