The Deadhead's Diary
Hale Hamilton, of the "It Pays to Advertise" Company, was for a time m farce comedy work with the Triangle Keystone Co. m America. :: , :? :: Don't you know what to do with milk this weather to keep it fresh? No; what? Keep it m the cow! — Household hint from "So Long "Letty." Dolly Brunton gets better every year. If she keeps on improving m her art she is destined to become a national favorite like Nellie Stewart and Flo. Young. George M. Cohan, the millionaire brother-in-law of Fred Niblo, has formed a motion picture corporation of his own, m which he will act comedies of his own writing. Sir Herbert Tree will be seen here soon m his first photo-play, "The Old Folks at Home." Sirerbert appears as a Western farmer who is selected to represent his State as Senator. . ti £1 !! Bill Hart, the popular Triangle bod man, has a distinct novelty m a forthcoming release, entitled "The Devil's Double." He slays a troublesome gent with a bowie knife instead of the proverbial revolver. , * :: ;; ;: > Field Fisher, of the "So Long Letty" Co., is not having his voice trained. Commenting on a rival vocalist m "So Long Letty," Mr. Fisher said, "I've heard worse noises than he makes when he's singing. I've sung them myself." it :: ji At the conclusion of the Italian Opera Company's season at the Wellington Grand Opera House on Saturday evening last, the front-of-the-taouse staff made a •handsome presentation to Mr. W. P. Russell, who is representing the J. C. Williamson interests m the organisation. Billy C. Brown, of Brown and Sorlie, well-known as coon comedians on the Fuller circuit; will probably leave for the United States next month. Not that he has any particular desire to return home, but it is stated that his race comes under the Australian Alien Restriction Act, and he might be compelled to gp. Daisy Jerome, of the ginger locks, at latest advices was resting m Noo Yawk. It is stated that her manager is demanding £300 a week for Daisy's services, and the theatrical folk are not naturally biting. If her -manager refuses to lower his fancy price we can pick Daisy "resting for a long, long time. :: :: it A big fault with most of the pictures coming Into this country from Triangle, Metro, Fox and other leading studios, is that there is too much sex appeal about them. So many dramas dealing with marital infidelity only creates an erroneous impression of American home life, which is every bit as clean as any other nation. Besides, the subject' gets nauseating after a while. ' :: : : :i "I would like to obtain a place m one of your companies," said the mild gentleman m the casting-room of the offices, of one of the big photo-play producing, companies. "Are you an actor?" he was asked. "Yes, on the legitimate stage." "But have you had any experience m aetlne without audiepces?" "That's just what brought me here," .was the reply. He got the, job. C. H. Workman, tho leading comedian with the new English Musical Comedy Company, now giving 'em fits at the Grand Opera House, has an idea for a comedy entertainment. It Is a Teutonised theatre, with all the characters gottstraflng, and the chorus singing the "Hymn of Hate." He considers that a delicious skit could be written, and he wants to cost himself <ib Von Tlrpitz, with toy submarines bobbing m and out of his whiskers. For some time efforts havo been made by certain parties to bring about an amalgamation of the other fllmhiring services outside the "Combine.' 1 The idea is to merge the Co-op. Service with Paramount and Fox. and tho object is stated to be to flght the combine. If the merge should eventuate and a fight take place, fllmhlrers should benefit thereby. That is, until the. opponents come to terms and themselves unite. Then the fllmhirers might not feel too happy. "So Long Letty," the lively musical play, is such a joyous brand of production that It has inspired the J. C. Williamson press agent to burst Into verse. This is a sample of his bue«t advertisement of the breezy musical play: "Gladuomo and glittering tfallop of Raloty, Good for the clergy and arood for the laity. Frolltcklng foursome of fun and frivolity, Jammoil full of Joy and Jest-lferous Jollity." If K. J. Rlghton trot's into camp, the New Zealand Picture HuuplUm or "Thfe Corntilnu" us It l.t more w«?iu'mlly known, will be without a hend.
