"Self-Starter" was pleased to observe j that one of our municipal councillors has, taken up the . matter* of improving .some of,, the, main thoroughfares of the'' city. In. stating.- that- Hill-street is m a deplor^blei condition, Councillor Fitz- . Gerald voiced the opinion heid by thousands of people who have occasion to J4se.,this .Jhoroughf are.. Writer is tempted_.to ask what the Wellington Automobile Association is doing?; * »'S'-rv ""<• * "Frisco Kid Mac", has installed himself, after resigning from Halrick and C0.,- with Tom Inglls. He is,' writer believes, making good at selling cars. He has departed for the cocky districts, where sovereigns grow on sheep. * '■'*■'•■'.■_» "Self- Starter" notices that Wilson, the undertaker at Newtown, has purchased a motor hearse. The body of the car, which is on a Hupmobile chassis; was designed and built by himself. Relative to this motor'' hearse, the remark has often been heard, "I am simply dying to have a ride m a motor-car," well, now, people who are dying to have a ride in -a motor car can have their wants? supplied. *•■ "Seif-fetarfer" has heard it mooted th^iY Morris,) ,Jm\, undertaker, is favorahly i^ipre^Sed, and to keep speed he also intends installing a motor? hearse. The next thing we will hear is one of these tradespeople getting an air-ship to outdo his competitors. It's wonderful what competition will do sometimes. * * ♦ While on this subject, poor cabby is now cut out' of his trip to Karorl, and the taxi-drivers have entered Into a new department. To do this he has decided to charge the same fare that the horse 'drivers charged My word, it's evident there's a lot In quick deliveries these days — both In coming and going. * * • What's up with Jimmy Bell, the tailor, that he has not been seen out m his N-B car yet. * « • How smart some of our local firms are ln anticipating the possibilities of heavy duties being placed on • motor cars owing to the war is evidenced In the fact that one locai firm m the Dominion trade landed about thirty cars a few days previous to the embargo being determined. * * * The Wellington Motor Cycling Club Is holding a euchre party and social evening m Godber's tea-rooms, Cour-tenay-place, this evening at 7.45 o'clock. Tho various members of the club, who are now m camp or have enlisted, will be the guests of the evening, and the committee intend doing all that Is m its power to honor the boys who are going to the Front. We cannot all enlist, but we can show encouragement to and appreciation of those who do.. With that end m view the committee desire to see a large number present. Tiekots can bo obtained from Lhe club's hon. secretary, 11. E. Edmonds.
