A Departing " Demon "

» Presentation to Detective Quartermain There was a very pleasant^ little gathering at the Auckland detective offlco on Friday evening of last week when all the boys assembled together to give Detective Arthur Quartermain a send-off. All sorts of nice little speeches were made, Chief Detective McMahon and Constable Farr, on behalf of the "Demons" and "Johns" respectively, having quite a lot to say about the good fellowship which had always existed between the departing detective and tho other sleuths. Incidentally, while extending to Mr. Quartermain their best wishes, a gold double albert, for the ofllcer to hang his "ticker" on, was also handed to him. The recipient, m a few words, expressed regret at parting from tho 1 boys with whom ho had always been on the best of terms, and a better set of good fellows he never wished to 1)0 associated with. He thanked them for the valuable present, which would be regarded as a memento of tho many happy daya he had spent m the Auckland detective forco and the many friends ho had left behind. Tho gathering closed with the singing of "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow." "Truth" would like to add that Detective Quartormaln has been transferred from Auckland to Lyttelton, m place of Detective Carney, transferred to Wellington,
