IROTTING.

(By "Brent Locanda.") N. 2. TROTTING ASSOCIATION. Representation. ' Representation on any body governing sport In the Dominion should be central - teed as much as possible, The personnel of the N.Z. Trotting Association Is now composed largely of members who reslda at a very great distance from the place of meeting. The widely scattered area of the Dominion makes it difficult and Inconvenient for members £o attend meetings with any frequency. Previous experience has shown that this method of representation has not been very successful. It is possible that- during the coming year apologies may be more numerous than usual. Disconnected attendance is not conducive to good management. Matters are often adjourned from meeting to meeting, and unless the same members, are present to see the business through the particular matter does, not receive the same attention and the adjudication' is not so perfect. Generally speaking, I am not m favor of too much centralisation. Christchurch, however, is the homo of trotting and, while outside representatives should remain on the Board, I think it would be greatly strengthened by the Inclusion of three or four more Christchurch members. -I am not saying this with the object of favoring any particular district, but I feel sure that the inclusion of extra Christchuroh members would ■ have a desirable and effective result, There are men m Christchurch who have for many years made a study of the management of the sport and their services would be most valuable, especially m committee work. The publio have no conception of the amount of Inside work involved m the business of the Association. During the racing season committees meet regularly two or three times a week, therefore it is almost out of the question to appoint outside members as commlttecmen. Local members are insufficient to form effective committees. Committees of two or three are unsatisfactory. Often one will be unable to attend and the work is liable to be done m an easy fashion. If only for the purpose of strengthening their committees I think the Association would be wise if In the near future they could see their way to increase the membershtp Jn the direction mentioned.
