A Patriotic Song.
"The Empire of the Soa." Published by the Dresden Piano Co, "Truth" has been favored, through the courtesy of tho composer, with an advanco copy of a new patriotic song, "The Empiro of the SSeaa — a Song of the British Empire." Tho words are by Air. J. Liddell Kelly, author of "Heather and Fern" and so well-known as a New Zealand journalist and ex-edltor of tho "New Zealand Times," .while the music was m the capablb hands of Mr. W. McLaughlln, the popular conductor. The collaboration has been altogether happy, and the result goes with a swing and a Jilt that is suro to make it a favorite m a very short time. Another pleasing feature tis tho absenco of "jingoism," so common m compositions of this kind during war time. Tho quotation of one verse wMI bo sufficient to prove how farj this statement is true. O'er Austral lands, once lapt In peace, Tho blnata of war now ravo; Than who could bid our fears to ccaae, If foomen ro<ie tho wavo? In Britain's might. In Britain's fleet, Our liopo must over bo; Our sons enrolled shall help to hold Tho Empire of tho Sea. There Is a swinging chorus which-prob-nbly will bo heard at many a patriotic gathering m the near future.
