THE DOPE.

The dope question is seriously agitating' the minds of the controllers of racing m the Old World. Both on the continent and m England 'strenuous efforts are being made to checkmate the doping of racehorses. Special officials have been appointed to test the saliva of horses whose appearance "suggest that drugs nave been administered to them, and some startling disclosures has resulted from such examinations. Thet Australian Jockey Club is proceeding further m its researches to ascertain how the dope offects horses. For this purpose two-year-olds have beqn purchased, to be trained under the supervision of the club's vet; When m condition they will race under tho influence of a dope, and exhaustive records will be kept as regards the effect of the drugs on tho speed and stamina of the doped horses. These experiments will be watched with considerable interest by sportsmen all over the world. Perhaps some day someone will turn attention to the host of doped horses that race locally.
