CHRISTCHURCH.
Sydenham 25, Addington 0. Linwood 24, City 5.
The Sydenhnm-Addlngton scrnp wan last Saturday's big attraction m the Thacker Shield competitions. Sydenham, however, had no difficulty m trouncing Addington. Addlngton took tho field minus a few men: at tho start of tho second half they had a full team. Sydenham led from the jump and quickly commenced to rattle up the
points, eleven of which they had bagged by half-time. After lemons the Sydenhamites played with greater combination. It is significant from the scores, however, that the victors, although clas.sy m most . departments, are poor goalshooters. Out of eight shots for the sticks they managed to land only one. The Bnssell Bros, and Smythe were conspicuous m Sydenham's loose rushes and Robertson's tackling was just "pie." Hardingham and Lagan were the pick of the Addington pack and it was not their fault that "magpies" did not score. LINWOOD v. CITY. Thanks mainly to reliable forwards Linwood didn't experience much difficulty m making dry hash of City. Per Lindsay and Button, City notched their first and only five points before Linwood had warmed up to the game. But when Linwood tumbled to the j6ke and sent Cross and Smith out on the warpath, the points began to rattle m. Cross bagged three tries, one of which was converted, before half time. On resuming another try came Cross's way and Koskella added to it. Smith played a great forward game j for the winners and Cross was everywhere there was a chance to score. Martin was the pick of the City forwards with Burley following close for honors. Lindsay also put up a good game for the losers.
