NEW BRIGHTON MEETING.
(By "Brent Locanda?') The New Brighton Trotting Club's Autumn meeting takes place on Thursday and Saturday next, and promises to be quite as successful as usual. Record nominations have been received and if the acceptances are up to the mark the starter will have his hands full. A large number of our best horses have been nominated, and punters will have their wits taxed to sort out likely winners. The New Brighton Derby will be run-on Saturday and is creating any amount of interest • The general opinion is that the race -will resolve itself into a match between Edith A. and Admiral "Wood. There are, however, several other good ones m the field, and rumor is busy with their smart doings. It? is quite on tho cards that the "heads" will be astray and that the Derby will be a good race. The handicaps have appeared for the first day and present a knotty problem. The first race of tho day is the Ladies' Bracelet Handicap, (saddle) for unhopplod trotters only. The race has drawn an entry of forty-three. The majority are not much good, but on recent running DuDosc and Able Boy should give a good account of themselves. Jean Dillon and Mandel are also fair horses. Thirty-three have entered for the Trial Handicap. This race ought to unearth one or two good ones. Should Elmo Junior start he should keep -the field busy. Ravcnswood and Rose Gauntlet have also been doing well. The Burwood Hondicnp is the big race of, the day and has drawn the good entry of twenty-one. The field is a very even one and. sure to produce a good' race. Our Aggie and Disappear have been pacing m good style. There is another big field m the Innovation Handicap. Seventeen seconds scparato, tho .limit from the Hcratch ■ horse. Caledon and Forest Chieftain may seo.the mile and a half out well, but it is just possible that the race may cover n dark one. If we have not many straight-out trotters m quality there are. plenty m numbers, and forty -two have entered with the object of winning the Autumn Handicap. It would take a Solomon to find the winner. There will be a big and slippery field m the Dash Handicap, one miie harness. If Driftwood is back to his old form he should be very promiuent. Tho North Islander. Hal Zolock, will have a good inspection. Thy Wainoni Handicap (two mile saddle) has drawn a better field thun usual, and promises a good contest. Dora MeKinney Is a real good one, and proud Moore has a reputation, but appears unreliable. Tho lllc-ctrlc Handicap has filled well. Mile saddle races arc full of interest and surprises, and the winner usually pays a large dividend. Of v number of good horses m the raco Merry Child and 1 Dosdernona have been going well, but the finish is sure to be close.
