"CHRISTMAS TRUTH"

On Sale Next Wednesday.

"Truth's" first Christmas Number will be published next Wednesday, and its healthy appearance should startle those Wowsers who have long prayed for the suppression of the truth — according to John ; Norton. The Number , consists of 24 large, broad-side pages, brimful of illustrations, jokes, and stories. Every line is interesting, full of vim v/ithout vulgarity, laughable, but not lewd. The stories are too - many to enumet-ate,' but it might be mentioned that there are a couple of columns of humorous reminiscences of the late Richard Seddon, the man whose absence is so sorely felt m New Zealand m these strenuous times of industrial turmoil. "Tickleum," a Scots humorist attached to "Truth's" staff, has let his imagination run riot m two interviews with the Premier and Sirjoe, while "Spearmint," the poor punters' prognosticator, has had an imaginary chat •with Sir George Clifford on some interesting points of the "game." The feature which the eomps, the printers, and the printer's devil, feel "swanky" about is the grotesque get-up of the production tind the "impressionist" treatment of color they have applied to the delicate drawings of "Will Hope," who is donning "sackcloth and ashes" for the assault on hi 3 artistic taste. But, taken from page 1, which, by the wayy is an elaborate announcement on Railway Tours, to page 24, which reveals a. set-rich -quick scheme of obtaining a £300 nugget for two shillings, "Christmas Truth" will be found to be nntque — out on its own m broad-sheet newspaper printing. The spreading of "Truth" m New Zealand has been so encouraging that twelve months ago a modern newspaper printing plant— second to none m Australasia— was installed. But, to make the best of every new-fangled notion, experience is required. The present Christmas number represents "Truth's" first effort for itself, and on that account the color, printing must not be judged too. critically. As time goes on the printer's devil will exercise economy, with vividly-colored ink, and the day may not be far distant when "Truth" will emulato the "art" of the great American Sunday newspapers. . "Christmas Truth" will be l on sale at all newsagents on Wednesday, 10th inst, price 3d. The weekly issue of "Truth" will be, published as usual at the week end.
