THE RACING BOOM.
There is< such a boom m racing m the Dominion now that the question arises, Have we enough permits? "Spearmint" is not m favor of a lot of mushroom clubs, but the clubs which lost their meetings two years ago are entitled to get them back. After this is done the matter of giving more racing' to the big ' centres should 'be gone into. Take the case of Wellington. There is not another dub within a fifty miles radius ; y yet,' here we have
to be. content with a paltry nine days' racing.. Just think of "it, nine days' racing , m a. year to serve a population of close on one hundred and fifty thousand people. Too- long have ;we been dragged at the heels of the Wowser element and it is time an end was put to it The racing authorities are the individuals who should move m the matter, but they do not seem to trouble, theinselv.eSf .Year, after year the -presidential address to the Racing Conference, ,^contains no. reference, to these^matters. Will this year bring a change ? "Spearmint" hopes so ; Sir^ Geo. ;Cliff or^, President; of the' C.on-' fereijce, is^ttie^rightipersq'n'to move m the matter; '^^^-f ' ; :
