BILLIARDS.
(By "Jigger.") The Auckland Tattersall's big bil* liard tournament, that ran for the best part of two months, finished up last week- with a great game between "J. Smith" (rec: 80) and : Charlie Taylor (rec. 110). When the game closed only two points separated the two, the scores being 250 — 248. Another Australian after gold and glofry. Fred Lindrum expects .to leave for London next August. Evidently the Gray boom has been,/ too much for him, and the idea of the large "gate" is abroad. Everything being equal, Lindrum, who is a. far 'greater "all round" player than. Gray, will make .a big success m. the Cold Country, but after the horribla time the latter has given them all at home, anyone m the billiard Una from Australia will be looked on with the cold eye of suspicion as being an interloper, and possibly- after some of the sacred cash belonging to the select few. The Gray party got some of that same cash. Australian billiard lovers are disappointed to find that engagements will not peraut. Melbourne Imnan to pay his promised visit to the Commonwealth this year. • It is stated m London that F. Lindrum will be seen there m September with Inman as a playing partner. Lindrum is at present engaged oh a country tour of N.S. Wales, land is showing excellent form, breaks of •209, 274, and ,409 coming his way m Els first three games. The Australian has, only got to stick to it and graft hard and there are none of them beyond him m England <or elsewhere.
