The gold watches and gold-mounted whips which have been presented to the most successful jockeys for the season just closing, have been won by H. Gray and A. Julian, and are to toe presented by the Mayor of Wellington (Mr T, M. Wilford) during, the interval at the King's Theatre this evening.

H. Gray, who has headed the list of ■flat riders, hails from TaranaM, and has been m the . pigskin for the past seven years. He can go to the scales at about 7.7, and his hand 3' weight has been a large factor m his success. His first win was on the Stratford-owned Kustitfue, which won a double at Patea. The Taranaki horsemani has ridden for the principal owners m the Dominion, and this season he lias been up on Klysian, Danube, Lady Reena, Formtoy, and Atrerbrothock.

A. Julian, with nineteen wins over fences, is well clear of the field of jumpers. He bails from Auckland, and teas been riding for about fifteen years. He also commenced his profession m tiie Taranaki district, and he rode his first win at the New Plymouth meeting m 1896. He is at present retained to ride the Hon. J. D. Ormond's jumpers, and has ridden the winners of all the princi-

pal jumping events m New Zealand. He was also successful at Randwick, where he steered Haydn to victory. Julian is known by the nickname of "Tartar," but there is nothing very awful about his disposition, and he is very popular with his brother riders. Like his co-partner, Gray, he is sl married man, and neither drinks nor smokes.
