HARTLEY'S HARTLESSNESS.
Frederick Hartley and Annie Hartley, his wife, appeared before the Auckland S.M.s Court this week on a charge of neglecting their children, aged respectively ten, five, and two years. The father, Avho was shown to be m receipt of £3 10s per Aveek, did not appear. Evidence was called) -bending; to show that the father was utterly indifferent to the welfare of his offspring, Avho were ill-fed, ill-clad, and filthy dirty ; the mother Was a avoraan of shady character, and addicted to intemperance. An order Avas made rclegatirig the children to the Industrial School at Mount Albert, and a prohibition order av&s issued against the mother. The case against the father Avas adjourned until Friday, July 8, on which date he 1 was ordered to appear m person.
