DO MISSIONED PAY INCOME TAX?
"L.8." writes to "Truth" and inquires whether the members of the socalled soul-snatching brigade, meaning, 'Of' course, the Henry-Potts American evangelical combination or missioners, subscribe to the Income Tax Department. Our correspondent points out that the tax is levied, strictly on jtheatrical and concert leaders. "L.8." winds up, furiously : "1 think you will agree with me when I state that these sensational pulpiteers from the land of the" Wooden Ham do not come so far from home solely to snatch' a few brands from the burning." Certainly "Truth" agrees that ttoe saving of souls is run on a strictly commercial basis. Tbe missioners arc here to make money, and if the Income. Tax Department do not serve them with the usual papers then the Department, or the officer responsible, is remiss m his duty. Travelling theatrical companies do religiously, or irreligiously, pay income tax. Visiting racehorse .owners have also been called upon to pay taxation, whiic visiting bookmakers have had to stump up. When all is said and done, is there much diSerence between the comic opera company and an American mission ?
