Deserts Wife and Kids.

Thomas Karnshaw, a fish dealer, ' left his wife, Christina, m Dunedin, about a year ago, and left on her hands three very • small children. Thomas went to Timaru, and carried on his business of dealing m fish. He was apgrpached^ as to contributing to thefj support pi 'tis children, and promised 25s ;a i weelc, hut this lasted only for about a fortnight. About seven;:- weeks ago, Christina went to live with Thomas at Timaru, but after she had -been there . a •week, the baby, which was' a fortnight old, died. She alleged that then Thomas commenced to ill-treat her so badly that she had to leave him* again, as she was frightened he might murder her. ! At the Dunedin Police ,Oourt on April I 6, before Magistrate Widdowson, Christina applied for maintenance for her children, her case being looked after by Mr H. D. Bedford. The Bench made an order calling on Thomas to pay 7s 6d a week towards the support of each child.
