Smith's Sleepiug-out.
On March 16 last George Smith, who c?escrihed himself as a tailor's cutter from Tasmania, was arrested as an idle and disorderly jeL'son. and brought before the Dunedin Felice Court. Mr Cumming; Fati.nts and. Prisoners! Aid Society, tooc .Smith m band and endeavored to get work for Mm. He was- given a few days' work as a cutter, but made a. botch of what he was given to ko. Smith was fixed up with lodgings, until such time as he could, be returned to Tasman a, but he apparently didn't admire the indoor life, for on three recent mornings he rose from his bed at 3 o'clock, and sought a slumbering spot somev/liere under the stars. . ~ L \ -_•--■ He ■ was under remand "■ to appear »t. the Dunedin Police Courfr 'on : Tuesday, and therefore the police, were kind to him and didnt re-arrest him on every occasion en which they found him wandering ai.out the streets by . night. A reman I was granted for a week to see if Smith couldn't be sent home. Subsequently the man was sent to the Seaclifi Mental Hospital.
