At the Dunedin police court on February 10 George Wallace, for whom Mr .Scurr appeared, pleaded guilty to three charges— on January 31 having received a pair of men's boots, valued at 15s, the" property of John Simon, knowing them to hape, been stolen ; on February 8. receiving two pairs of ladies' boots ; and on- February 8 reoeivinfc a pair of ladies' boots. . Chief Detective. Herbert .. said accused was; previously, to the offence, ' an operative m Mi Simon's- establishment, When he became acquainted with the two hoys to' be charged with tne theft ot the boots. Re met the boys later on, and, being promised money, they supplied the bbots to Mm. It appeared to. Mm that accused's offence was a very serious one* m that he had made thieves of the boys. Accused's .finger-prints had been sent to Wellington and it had been found that ho was an eld criminal. Mr Scurr said accused lived a decent lie until he got-out of work recently. , Maristtate sentenced accused to three months' imprisonment oa each (Marge, spntencrs to he concurrent. The ■ two yo*ng latfs were then charged - with having stolen the boots. Mr Axelseh's report on the circumstances of the lads was Very favorable, and they Were admonished and discharged.
