At Miramar.
The second, day of the February ijlceigj ing took place on Saturday. • .'/taajJi It was one of the best nieeUngst-jeVfik seen at Miramar, and the game seemed to take a new lease of life. Good fields m all events and several turns ups. Result— Tommies all smiling and punters puzzled. The only favorite to land during the day was Axite, who won ttie -14.2 Handicap. The starting was again vMy baa, but apparently it has got to he put up 'witb till the end. Several fields wexe delayed fully ;15 minutes, and then the despatches were straggling ones. t ■ Merrimanu looked the best .conditioned o'FT.he Trial field, and after getim'g a flying start she won from end to end. Wadham, who rode her, and Davey on Sweet Lethe, both delayed the start considerably by refusing to approach the barrier except at a \ The starter did . .not check them and eventually let Merrimanx away -and .left Sweet Lethe. The Onslow Handicap, tor 14.3 pomes, resulted m a dead *eat between Billy and Miss Jvy. Mytre, ridden by -/. Burns, who osl, agaiu been granted a license, was made an odds on order, but - she put off badly and after being hard ridden to v catch hec field she was gone at the turn. Billy and Miss Ivy then had the rat* to themselves and the judge was unable to separate them. * " Muskerado, Wharekoa, All Gold, Suit? shine, and Pico tee, comprised the field m the big race, . and after a lot of chopping and changing, backing and bluffing, thtf whole of them went out triers. .<? Muskerado and All Gold set out to make the pace and cut eacb other'!! throate. ■;•..-. '.;>. The grey was the first to stop and then the chestnut went on alone, but she was unable to resist ..a strong tun 'jfcj Pico tee on whom Mallowes rode a spleh-. did race. ' Properly handled All Gold would havQ won. . After giving a lot 6! bother at th? barrier Axite got a break and won the Ngaio Handicap.
