OTAHUHU TROTTING CLUB.

The Otahuhu Club's summer meeting commenced to-day, the weather being splendid and the attendance excellent. Fourteen faced Mi O'Connor m the Maiden Trot, one mile, St. Michael, bs.ee, being favorite. After gomg two furlongs, St. Michael took command from Cora Bell, 3sec, St. Patrick ssec, and Blackmine lsec, and won easily by a dozen lengths from Blackmine, who was a length m front of St. Patrick. Time, 2min 52 l-ssec.
Eleven started m the Special Handicap, one irile arid a half. Miss Ngapara, 19 sec, was favorite. Orange pushed HuanuL along smartly and won nicely by a neck ,the favorite being third. Time, 3.58. Only four started m the Pony Cup, C£ furlongs. Peggy Pryde, 8.5, was favorite. Peggy Pryde was first away, followed by Cyrona, 9.0, Frontino, 7.12, and.Fraulein 8.9. Cyrona won by a head from Peggy Pryde, Frontino a length away third. Time, lmin 25 l-ssec. All Night was the only scratching m the principal event, the Otahuhu Trotting Club Handicap, of two miles. Of the remaining fourteen, the Gisborne crack, Sweet Patch, Bsec, was popular favorite. Kirikiriroa, 21sec, made the pace, and, passing the standv the first time, led from Cavalier, 19sec, Tableau, Fioranz 14 sec, Lady Love, and the favorite. Along the back, both improved their positions, and passing the stand again, Cavalier had a commanding lead from Fioranz, with the favorite next. Entering the straight, the big horse ran up to Cavalier, but he was all out and tired to nothing, leaving Cavalier a winner by three lengths, with Fioranz ten lengths further away. Tirce, smin 5 2-ssec. The Gisborne horse, though much atove himself, trotted grandly, and made hosts of friends. The hard run did him good, and it will surprise no one if he wins a race or two at the meeting.
In the Sylvia Park Trot, one mile and a half, Vibrona declined and six went to the post. Mark Scott, 12sec, was favorite. Quickly taking command, the favorite led from Nettlewood and Good Friday, 7sec, and never being pressed by anything but the latter, he won by three lengths, Black Diamond, lsec, being half a furlong further away third. Time, 4min 6 2-ssec.
Eight of the eleven figuring on the card went to the post m the Class Trot, one mile, Grampian, 15sec, being a hot favorite. Orange could not get the favorite to start and he. returned to the paddock. This is the second time the 2-y.r-old has been guilty of this trick when driven, and his owner announced that he would start him m saddle m the Electric Trot. As they raced along the back stretch and Bell Gray was the first to turn for home, Scott th»n kicked Baxter along, and the gelding responding, won by a couple of lengths from Bell Gray, with Phillistina third. Time, 2min 31 l-ssec.
There were but four starters m the Ladies Bracelet, \\ miles, and V.S., scr., was a strong favorite. St. Patrick, 27 sec, made the . best of his start, but was caught after running six furlongs, and V.S. won as he' liked by four lengths. Worrage, 22sec, was 150 yards further .away. Time, 3min 53 2-ssee. The day's racing closed with the Electric Handicap, one mile, nine starting. Rosie Wilkes, 16sec, was a slightly better favorite than Grampian, 13sec. The favorite was first away,- followed by Madam Melha, Taihoa, lZsec, and Grampian, who was ridden m saddle. Rosie Wilkes was first m the straight, closely followed by Grampian, and a great race ensued, the mare winning; by a bare half head, . Taihoa third. Time, 2min 36 3-ssec.
The general arrangements were' good, the. tote accommodation sufficient, and everything passea without a hitch, which irajs ;qaite tip Ix 3; cspected /with an experienced secretary filae Mr F. B. Yonge at tte helm. •
