Robert Grindley, ranger for the boroagh of-i&arth-East Valley* had a rough passage m the Dunedin Court on Monday, when he, proceeded against two persons for ' allowing stock to . wander on the streets. Lawyer Irwin pleaded not guilty lor John Woods, a tall thin man with a doormat beard, who was charged with allowing two horses to wander. The ranger said he found the horses unattended, and when defendant came up he cursed and swore and assaulted him. Defendant said the horses were only temporarily alone while he was bringing out his cow. He didn't hit the ranger and spoke to him civH.,- The case was dismissed. Much time was spent before James Samson was .fined 5s for allowing a cow to wander. The ranger said, he found ihe cow "very much at large." He called at .defendant's house and saw two boys, one of T^whbm went for defendant, while tiie' other' went after the cow. By .the time' defendant came out, the boy ■was' driving . 'the cow along.
