The Highden Horses.

While at Awapuni on Monday I. looked m on George Price, the. new trainer "at Highden, and found him very busy with no "end of jobs on hand, but still able to give me a few minutes m which to steer me round. Hightlen is situated at the back of the Awapuni race course, and consists of fifteen acres of wellsheltered ground, which is 4to be sub-divided. The boxes are complete m every detail, and are well ventilated. A splendid cottage, is being. built for the boys, who are, for the time being, quartered m the trainer's house. The latter is a beautiful residence, and is presided over by Price's mother. The hundreds of visitors who were wont to. call on Mrs Price at Otaki will readily understand how well everybody is cared for at Awa-" puni. There are nine horses m the stables, and they are Vasa, Nyland, and Moanaerges, who ate all by Finland from Parera, Perolina (Persimmon— La Carolina), Polymorphous (Multiform— Rumor), Celaeno (Pilgrim's Progress— Ulanranald mare), and three two-year-olds, viz., Kilosturi (Kilcheran — Certificate), Allurement (Soult— lnamorata), and Gloss (Soult— Lustrous). No. 1 box contains Vasa, who is just m again after a spell. The Finland mare looks to have wintered well, and is m good condition to start active work. Price has every hope that she will improve on her past efforts next season. No. 2 was Perolina. This beautiiul-bred mare has lately been troubled -with her kidneys, and after, working- of a 'morning it was only with the greatest difficulty that she could be got home. However, a cure has been affected ; she is doing slow work again and is building-up a good deal. No. 3 was Gloss. This is. a. very pretty brown filly, but, so far, is a bit on the small side. She is a well-legged filly with good quarters behind, arid is v6ry quiet. . No. '1 was Allurement. A bay filly who is on the retired list just now. It appears that she got rid of her rider a tew mornings ago, and injured her shoulder through her reins becoming entangled m her feet. ' ■-.< No. 5 was the bay colt,. Kilosteri. This is the biggest Kilcheran I have seen, yet, and is a good colt all over. His trainer thinks highly of him, and anticipates that he will come early. No. 6 box contained the eh. f. Celaeno. TJhis filly is gifted with pace, ,a»a ran

well on several occasions last season, particularly' at Riccarton m Movember, when she suffered defeat by Kasnaßyle. She has thickened out a good deal and is now a commanding looking filly. , The pride and hope of the stable is the big Multiform colt Polymorphous}. This lis a remarkably big three-year-old. lie is a light bay m color and is one of the finest specimens of a thoroughbred that cne could wish to gaze upon. He has a beautiful neck and crest with a good shoulder and a big girth. He .stands over a lot of ground and has a splendid back with good hind quarters. On top he is all that could be ■desired, but he is not what one would wish for when you get below. Like all the Motclikiss descendants he is bad legged and has practically no arm at all. It is stated that he will be a runner m the H.-IJ. Guineas m October, and if he conies on quickly he may acquit himself with credit m that event, but if a Derby preparation is given him trouble may ensue. Summed up, he ap- ' pears to be a good cut of a horse for a short course, but only for a short course. Boanerges does not appear to have grown much, and has not come on as might have been expected. I Nyland has grown , a heap, and has flll- | ed out a lot since racing at Wanganui m May. He is looking very fresh, and will be the first horse started since Price took charge.
