HYDE'S HIDE.

THE SNIDE SCHEMES OF A

LAND SHARK.

Is He a Fraud and Take-down ?

Commercially a Rotter, Morally a

Monster.

In accordance with the indicatios 6^ TCB m last week s issue, ".'Truth" again •«- turns to I the task of putting the limelight on Edgar Hyde and his mischievious machinations. This week it is the province of this respectable and reputable journal to deal with the hideous Hyde from two standpoints. First, m regard to his 'ousiness life, and, secondly, m regard to his private, or, ratther, semipublic life. Incidentally, "Truth" ' warns its many and" respectable readers agamst having' any dealings with this unscrupulous, unprincipled, unmitigated skunk of a land shark m. any way whatever, and m order that the public may know with whom they are dealing, this journal gives Hyde a grand advt. fnee, gratis, and for nothing, m the hope that, whilst the daiiy press assists Hyde m HIS SCANDALOUS LAND DEALS, the public may derive, the benefit of the free advt., instead of Hyde. In addition to trading— perhaps swindling would be. a better ttermm — m his own name, Hyde trades undi.r the name of Cribson and Co. and The New -Zealand Pastoral and Finance Corporation, and his postal address for th se two latter concerns is Box 404, P. 0., WeilinKtbn. 6n his printed^ memoranda of the "New Zealand Pastoral . and Finance Corporation, Hyde has printed, ''lateptemiscs 'of Uibson and C 0.," but he is very careful not to explain that the two firms are the same and that the entire board of directors is constituted m v Edgar Hyde. In July of this year, Hyde, tried .to' get a coup m dealing with a Wellington Orm of furr nishers, and' nearly succeeded m his attempted swindle, m fact, his action over this transaction sho;iM most certainly be investigat.d Uy the Det cth'e Department with a view to ascertaining whether or not Hycle was not giiilty of attempted fraud.- Hyde's mode of dealing m " this . case was to order furniture to the value of £50, for which hegave a P.N.,, endnrs.d 'oy a solicitdr-^whose aftairs are at present OCCUPYING THE ATTENTION OF THg LAW, SOCIETY ;..'.. —and signed by Joseph Orr. The latter Caikd for ihe jtoods, -but had ih. m delivered at Hyde's house at Is, and Bay. Some three wee*s afi-erwards Hyde had the. goods removed, one portion to a h.juse.in Adtlaidt-ro.d, and the other to No. 6 Majori ahk-street. The munager of the firm who supplied the called oq Orr for payment— H\ de had denied having received any of the lurniture— at his house v in 1 Viikht-atreet. Orr said that he had the- goods, tout on the representative of the ftrm searching the houstf, he fuufld n ,/ tn.ee cf theni and Orr then had to admit that the luruiture had been tal en to Hyde's house at island Bay. Htde. was th n caih.d on at his address m Adel^-idt-.d.d ;nd he pilcjied a yarn to the etuct that ihe tumiture had been stokp from the island Bay liouse during his absence. ■ A re>.ue«.t that .h6 firm's representative should be allowed to starch' the Adola dt-ioad house was met with a blank ief»sil, tut necessity knowing no law, the furniture man seized Hyde by the neck and shook him like A TERRIER SHAKING A RAT, and then forcibly entered the house, j v.hir^ tie «i co eied ihree lots" of the ! missing furniture. Hyde.. then said that the balance of the furniture had been i con* eyed to thef Majoritauk-^truet house, j but that the lady Who had the house had I cleared out to ihe Hutt and bad stolen j the . iuiuiiure. 'this iiishlj-^pKed yam was also found to be a fabrication, and it was subsequently a-scertuined that Hyde had had the furniture sold tihe previous week by a Wei iiugln. firm of auctioneers. Seeing tbat the game was up, Hyde cafne t6 the scratch and gave a cheque for £32 ibs, being the babnee owini, i-SS' discount.. It mi^ht be asked why the furniture firm did not come on the solicitor, who had not endorsed the P.N., for payment, but this was done, and the so'ici or alleged that Hyde had already received the my-ney from him to cover rhe P.N. The same firm of furnishers hold a P.N. for • £43 oh account of une A ulney, who •. was referred to by Dr. McArthur m. his jud ment last week, which h^ts. five signatures on the back, but the firm have been unable . to collect any money on account of 1l:e P.N. From this and other transactions which have been reported to this olfice, it would appear that there IS A GANG OF SHARKS ABOUT who should have their dealings investigated by. the Police Department at an early date. ' . .. \ Coming to Hyde's private life, he is revealed, m the . character of a delectable, despicable' dastard, who is living a double life and deceiving his wife, who is X m delicate, health. For several months m the year Hyde's wife - resides with his mot/her m Auckland, and during these periods Hyde had' a gay old time of ...it. . For some time he resided with his copartner and financial-, Amelia Levi at the Lower Hutt, aihd this person has, had three ' shildren, including twins, of which it is alleged Hyde is the father. ,The lady, whilst at the Hutt, passed under .the name of Mrs Rawspn, aod Hyde Avas the lady's brother and lived m the same houstt. Last Christmas Mrs Hyde went to AucklaiPif and RatorUa for the benefit pf her health ant? returned to fi MajorbanU-street ,m May c?r June. Suhsequently the ' pair boarded ih\ Hobspnstreet and then removed to Islaad Bay. It was. at this time that "Truth'- opened out on Hyde ah d bis lady part__ei_v _ (Amelia, Levi) doings m regard to the Silverlake Estate, and this, reached the ears of Hyde's faithful wife and she asked for an explanation. Hyde pooh-pooh-ed the article and convinced his wife that there was (nothing m it. Mrs Hyde's brother subsequently went- tp Island Bay and questioned him about ;! HIS BUSINESS AND IMMORAL RELATIONS with Amelia Levi and a hell of a row took place and Hyde turned the gas out and ordered his brother-in-law out of the house, but the brother-in-law relighted the gas .'s and asked the skunk what he nieant. Hyde then said he" would haye prosecuted his wife's, relations and "Truth" ,6ver the matter, only he would not get. anything .out of it, and "Truth" here, pauses to ; remark that Hyde was quite correct, except that he might have got something he would not like had he acted as he pretended he would. Anyway, after further .argument Hyde managed to gel. his brpthor-in-law out of the hou!_e, and, having turned the key on him, said to him,' throu&h the window, "If yoii come out. here again I'll toreak yoUr damned neck," the . brave man, it will be notioad, spoke* from behind the wall. But the brother-in-law invited Hyde to come outside and "if you do I'LL BREAK YOUR NECK for you," but Hyde was too anxious to protect his hide and remained under cover. . Hyde has forbidden his wife to receive her sisters px other relations, and, by a ruse, stating that he was going on to a farm m Auckland, he got his wife to the Northern city, but after remaining there a week himself he returned to Wellington. A few more of Hyde's transactions, are on hand and will' he given publicity m due course. In the meantime, -it is hoped that .'the police 'oranch will keep a sharp eye on him and his friends.
