"Petoneite"— The merits of the two men is not a matter ■ for controversy. Wallace as an all-round player was JDuucan's superior.
Death claimed M. McCarthy, a wellknown Masterton footballer on Wednesday
week last, after a short illness. Mac. was a representative player of ability and last season represented Wairarapa. He played for the Wairarapa-Bush team against the Anglo- Welsh team at Masterton, and his last representative • match was for Wairarapa against Wellington at Wellington. He also represented Hawke's Bay for years on the football field, and both m Wairarapa and Hawke's Bay he had few superiors* as a front ranker. The deceased belonged to the Red Stars Club m Masterton and was very popular, among its members. Peace to his ashes.
Q. Moran, Captain of the "Wallabies," wiDl not return to Australia with the team at the conclusion ' of its Fogland tour, but will spend two years m London and Vienna studying surgery. In the first match of the New South Wales League team against Mid-Rhondda A. E. An'lezark had a cartilege m his knee injured, ahd the team had to play one short for the greater part of the game. As H. Messenger was also off the field injured for a time, the Australians at one period had only 11 men on the field. Altogether the pros, and amateurs' from the Commonwealth struck bad luck all of a neap at the start of their tours.
