Sir. Timothy Of Brian, of Lohort Castle, County Cork, has been running counter to the law m Dublin. At a trial for slander recently, a juror staled that he. had been "approached" by Sir Tim or some of his myrmidons, the result being that an expensive trial was declared abortive. The Chief , Baron fined Sir-Tim £300 on an attachment motion, and ordered him* to pay the costs of an abortive trial.. Sir Tim, though a baronet, and living m a castJe, is -a plebeian. The original Tim O'Brien wag. something m the liqtuor trade m Dublin, commencing AS A "POT BOY," and ending up as a wine merchant. If you want to know what is meant by a "pot boy" read "Misadventures at Margate". Tim O'Brien was*. Lord Mayor of Dublin m the year 1844, when Dan O'Oonnell, John -. O'Comiell; Charles G-avan^ Duffy, John Gray, Tom Steele, Rev. Thomas Tierney, Richard Barrett, and Thomas Matthew Ray, were tried for misdemeanor. Tim sympathised with the O'Connellitesj and. became popular. In 184!) he was again elected Lord Mayor, and the Queen, visiting Ireland that year, Tim, as Lord Mayor, mot her .at an. imaginary gate at Baggot-street, and handed Her Majesty a bunch of dummy keys.. He was immediately told to KNEEL DOWN IN THE MUD, and he rose up "Sir Tim." He was a decent old man, who did not put ".on side," and was M.P. for the little Borough of Cashel, 1849-59. He died- m 1802, and was succeeded by his son l J at, who sat m Parliament from 1852-1885. He was succeeded m 1895 by the present Bart, who was a distinguished cricketer, but nothing more. »
