ALLEN'S ANTICS.
An Impolite Porter.
As a rule "Truth" has the greatest admiration for railway servants generally, and railway porters m particular, and it is with the utmost reluctance that this journal refers to a snob of a railway porter m. the employ of the Manawatu Company, and who bears the nalme of Allen. On King's Birthday a member of this religious journal's staff had to meet the train arriving at the Manawatu station at 6 p.m., on board of which was a lady passenger acquaintance. The lady had a small carry-all in -the guard's van which was at the end of the train, consequently some little distance away from- the passenger coaches. On proceeding to look for the luggage Porter Allen was discovered " carryr v it along the platform, but as \ soon as "it was claimed he said to "Truths, representative, "here you can carry _ it to the parcels' office," and at once deposited the. package on the platform and REFUSED TO CARRY IT FURTHER. The coot of a porter declined to give his name, but an appeal to the stationmaster, Mr Pollock, at once bore Iruit, and . "Truth" fastens to record its- appreciation of Mr Pollock's services m on'pring Porter Allen to convey the I 1 ■ I to" the left-luggage office. On arv lat this office, however, Allen, knowing ne was not under Mr Pollock's eye, at once commenced to sling oft at "Truth's" representative, and his skunklike demeanour is here recorded m order that it may prove a lesson to uncivil public servants qf his obnoxious type. As Allen will probably become a Government servant, when the Company's property is taken over, it is to^.be hoped that he will profit from this little object lesson, and m future endeavor to do his duty , v fairly and honestly, and at the same time curb his unruly tongue.
