A biography of David Syme will shortly be published. Much of the matter it will contain was supplied by King David himself to his biographer for the express purpose. "Critic" is open to lay a shade of odds that these biographical disclosures will, be poor things m comparison with its reservations. • A Prohibitionist paper, edited m Melbourne says: "The deaths certified as due to intemperance m the United Kingdom 1 ' have increased from 40 per million m 1855 to 113 per million m 1900." The same paper boasts of the great strides the Temperance movement has taken during recent years. Since the death-rate has increased so enormously, doesn't look as if temperance reform as given out did .mush good !
