FOUL RIDING.

At the last Avondale meeting there appeared to be an epidemic of foul riding and the stewards of this club, spurred on by public opinion, have decided to hold an enquiry into the running of several horses m the Avondale Guineas and the Electric Handicap.

It appears that there is a lot of bad blood bet\7een D. Moraghan, trainer' of Master Soult, and several riders m Aucklandj consequent upon the former's action m taking A. Julian off his horses and substituting C. Brown. It is stated -that Master Soult was badly dealt with ,m the Guineas on the second day of the Avondale meeting and that he was ; bored, all over the track and eventually finished on the extreme v outside of the course. It is also alleged that C. Brown, rider of the . colt, received an unmerciful thrashing from another ' rider during the race and was so badly injured- that .he had to take to his bed and was unable to ride again at the meeting. • .' Another "fraud was perpetrated on the last day. when the Kleetric Handicap came up for decision. It is 'openly said that the rider of Nautnai paid great attention to Taimanupo and knocked him ;on to the rails m the most bsvreE&ced manner as soon as the field had gone about two hundred yards. The correct pea m the race was Lucio, 'ana" after Naumai had bumped Taimanupo his rider then pulled him well out and Lucio was given' a clear run and eventually won comfortably ; while Tairaanupo succeeded m running second. It is about time that some deterrent measures were used to put a stop to these daylight robbers. It is well known that hprses m, certain stables never by any chance win, or even run well, unless they are solid _m the 'betting, while others are aiways trying under any conditions. Such being the case it might be thought that some attention would be paid by the stewards to market movements, but they appear to be supine m this regard. V , . i A meeting of the Avondale (iJommittee to enquire . into the running of the two races will probably be held some vtime ; next week. : '
