THE " RESPECTABLE " PRESS.
A Few Choice Excerpts.
This intensely circumspect .family journal has often been accused of dealing ■with various subjects m a brutally frank manner, publication of the truth necessitating an ungloved fist, and the first to deplore the circumstance is the pious boodle-owned daily journal. Christchurch "Press" is a typical sample of the morning sausage-wrapper that holds ■ up its hands m horror at the unpleasantness of truth when printed boldly m "John Norton's." The shocked expression is all the more emphasised by the bitter knowledge that the public wants and will have the Wellington weekly at all costs. *et we, find /m the '.'Press" articles ;; relating.' to ; maternity matters: that "Truth" would hesitate about publishing, and only prints extracts now with its face suftused in' »a burning blush. The article was printed on Friday, October 9, .under the heading of "Our' Babies," by "Hygeia," and gave the opinions of two Plunket nurses at Napier and Palmerston North respectively;. or the treatment of tlie expectant mother, as set out m examination papers recently at Dunedin.
