The attention of this paper has been directed to the conduct of a contractor at Riccarton, who victimised two of his men. These workurs shifted 21£ yards of shingle m one day, when one man knocked off, and the second man' shuted eight yards ;on the second day, making 29$ yards for the two days. Tim contractor is on the "make,'* and when, the men came up to be paid, said he would pay they for 28* yards only, and, .moreover, told them to call on the following Saturday, when another two yards were deducted, allegedly for repairiug a pick, the charge for which should have been a shilling. The unfortunate men were kept moving back wo ids and forwards for some time before they could get their money, and then they were paid 3s short, the contract price being Is per yard. This paper has been asked to curse Ihc contractor with heartiness, and does so herewith at the top of its voice.
