A Truculent Troll Trapped.
*Annie Moore isvpf an amorous disposition, not to say and on June 19 appears to -have added to her- laurels by getting into an inky condition, and whilst so elevated followed the example of the Salvarmy sisters by 'holding a meeting or making an attack on tbe devil's own m Insrestre-street, with the result that Annie soon gathered such, . a strong battalion of sympathisers and supporters round her as would cause feelings of jealousy m the breasts of the Salvarmy sisterhood. "Annie's behaviour, however, does not appear to have been quite of the orthodox fashion, and a herald was despatched to call up the reserve, which quickly arrived m the form of Cop. Me-' Gregdr, who immediately took a hand m the proceedings, much to the disgust'and annoyance of Annie, who at that time, HAD NOT MADE THE COLLECTION. usually expected when great crowds congregate round the shrieking sisterhood. The kindly-hearted McGregor endeavored to have a heart to heart talk with Annie, but the unblushful maiden resisted his overtures and refused to 'go voluntarily to the penitent. . form-V and the pious cop. was much hurt at Annie's.unladylike refusal to unbosom herself like a true convert. Not to be baffled m his efforts to rescue 'a lost soul, the gallant cop. initiated a flank movement and called' up a commissariat waggon m the shape of an express cart, which proved a great factor m getting Annie to the penitent form. With the aid of a band of camp-followers, the McGregor cop, hoisted Annie into the waggon, but the angelic one used forceful language which offended the pious cop's, ears, and he held his head down for very, shame's sake, but still he did not relent ih his endeavor to cast, out the devil which had taken possession of the . angelic _ r-ne; When the ladylike person came before Mr Riddell on Monday, the cop. admitted haying known her ladyship for a period of six weeks, during which she had been living on her means. Cop. Jones also came forward with a kindly reference /to the . many virtuous qualities of Annie, and the fact that she was~a lady of soma doubtful imeans. "Oh, go on with you," interjected Annie from her position m the private box. Sergt. Stewart added ' HIS TOKEN OF PRAISE. stating that Annie's flow -of language, was the worst he had ever heard. Annie told a great yarn about, having s+aved at the City Buffet and other~kostelries m company with her mother and sistey. "I got drunk, pleaded guilty, and paid the ..-fine, your Worship, but I was not drunk on this occasion. I was not interfering with anyone, but the constable came along and took me away," Annie further .stated --that she received money regularly frbm her dear ma and sister, who were well off. His Worship fined Annie £3 for being drunk and using foul language or. m default 21 days' gaol. Annie was remanded until Wednesday on the charge of being an idle and disorderly person. When .brought before Mr Riddell for sentence Annie exhibited great Contrariness and declined to listen to ,the Beak's admonitions by interjecting, "I'll blanky well show you I will." On his Worship pronouncing sentence -of three months' hard, Annie ejaculated 1 "You i ought to blanky. well., go- there, yourself for six morths."
