THE JOYS OF JOURNALISM.'

What "Truth" Has to Put Up With.

"Truth" is daily astonished .by the letters., it receives from a certain class of people, and; it -marvels that a respectable family paper such as it is should be mistaken for a coarse, villainous, backbiting, insulting .^publication, like some of the sectarian aM prohibition rags published m the Dominion. Following is a sample of the .type of unsigned letter poked under the' door of "Truth's" Christchurch office:— Dear Sir,— l am Riving you the names of two women. 'if you care to use them for your paperMrs 1 _ road, Addington, . wife of the late — — .' She has lived a high life for some years and still has her fancy man m a barber and hairdresser named ,-■■ ' .'■■, —street. near '— — — The other is a Miss — - or Miss '■ -,-■ stepdaughter of , of . ; Miss — . who gets dr link and takes drugs and sleeps for days under its influence and gets kicked" out of houses for doing so lives with prostitutes or anyone who will take her m. One time LIVED WITH FAT ANNIE and another time with a Mrs who gets her living (blushful statement here) and later at other places. Now, Mrs — '—— , the registry office of , who I dare say knows, nothing about her except ■ that she' f is „— — 's stepdaughter. „ ; ' You may test all these and find out for yourself. At present Miss ■ is housekeeping for Mrs ,' the house is m street, east , of a boarding-house, about No. - — r or .She won't stop there .long as the bid failing will take place again. She is a music teacher and taught Mrs -s little girl, of — — r street, when she was sincable enourh to do so. (P.S.— Mrs - — *- has been immotall with' a lot ipromenent men of the city. hir son was in' that accident on — i — road about eighteen month ago.

"Truth" is constrained to observe, How these v cats do love one another! The paper respectfully declines to "test all these and find out" for ourselves.
