PONEKE 14. VICTORIA COLLEGE O.
Poneke was a different team on Saturday with Wallace, who played right up to his old form. With him out of tho Poneke team, the game would have been very even, but as it was the College players were rather outcalssed. Considering the greasy stale of the ball, Poneke backs played splendidly. They threw the ball , around m good style, and all the tries, were scored from passing rushes. Poneke forwards also played well Rush being particularly prominent. College did not show the same form as that exhibited, in their recent matchesagainst Wellington and Melrose. The forwards seemed to miss De la Mare's leadership, and did not put any vim into their play. The backs were m and out, and did nothing brilliant. O'Leary, at full, played a fine game; his defence work being very good. Hitchings and Boglo tackled well but- did not shine m other rejects. Brosnan was the best of the forwards. On Poneke side Rush played a great game m the forwards, and was well supported by Hunter and O'Brien. Gardiner was yerv useful and assisted his -backs well. Wallace, at full, was quite a host m himself, and gave the College some very anxioys moments. 'The three-quarter line were all gpod, and handled the wet ball m great style. Flanagan gives promise of developing , into a top-no tcher, and under Wallace's tuition no doubt will be heard oi. Tily^rd; at half, made some fine openings, particularly the one which led up to the first try. j To be successful. College forwards willhave to put more vim into their work. ; and use their brains, which one expects University students to. have.
