The Dunedin Police Court recently held r the cowering form of Robert Sanson, a youth over w,Jiose head about twenty summers have passed. Robert was charged with using profane' language m a public place, having been overheard by a zealous constable to remark, "J — — C— — " whra passing along the street. Robert- diid not deny it, bub he pointed out to his that he had "not been m habit of- using .sulphurous- language, that he had always borne an irreproachable character, and that the^exeiamation m question had slipped from his lips unawares. Bob certainly looked the part. Big innocent eyes, and a white girl's face seemed tb cry 'n loud the . impossibility of this disciple of purity defiling his vocal chords with lurid talk; But his Wurship licked his lips and dug his. pen deep into the ink-bottle. "Forty shillings or one month's imprisonment,"' he said, and he .went on, to remark on the prevalence of bad -words m public places, and the joy he personally felt 1b feeing able to deal, with one *' '

It was time that the practice was suppressed with a strong and firm hand. He said he experienced the keenest delight m knowing that the police had brought one offender to book.
