A DRUNKEN DOCTOR.

Potty Power's Prank__

Trouble at a Pub.

There was quite a little rumpus m Willis-Street on the evoning N of Thursday, the 2nd irist., m which a medical 'man took a prominent part. Dr. Patrick Joseph; Power, of Otaki, is a person to whom the flowing bowl has many allurements. A couple of months ago he was fined m the Wellington S.M. Court for drunkenness. But this did not quench his thirst for fame as a wine-bibber. When he gets on the drink the potty Power is a source of great annoyance to the police, owing to his propensity for cutting up rough. On the last occasion on which he was run m a barmaid refused to serve him with drink on account of his already large load of waipirp. So the prancing Power plavf"m r THREW A GLASS AT HER, but a bystander diverted his aim. In Thursday's row also there was a fall m the glass. 'Beery Power began to make himself a damned nuisance to everyone else m the private bar of the Palace Hotel, Willis-street. He was ordered to quit, but refused, andwas promptly shunted out. The maudlin medico tried to return to the bar, but «w-as prevented. Next he crashed a -fist through the plate-glass panel window close by. A couple of slops going down Willis-Street on a tram-car, on their way off duty, noticed a crowd round the pub, and jumped off and ran the drunken doctor m. While on the way to the Lambton Quay station m a cab, this jewel of the medical profession tried to have another little scrap, but the two peelers were too much for._iim. The following morning he was haled before Mr W. G. Riddell, S.M., and charged with wilfully damaging the window. The ..beery bounder pleaded guilty, adding, "I am awfully sorry." This was all he said. The beak fined him 20s and' ordered him to pay the value of the glass, £3 14s 6d, or sojourn m quod for seven days. Potty Power announces his intention of leaving a place where he is treated so unkindly, and buying a practice m the country. Pity the poor country ! »
