A SUCCESSFUL SIRE.

Imported Grafton captured the sire honors at the V.Jt.C. meeting, his descendants winning half-a-dozen events. The star performer was Peru (Australian Cup and Champion Stakes). Another double-winner was Sivori, which took the Brunswick Stakes and River Handicap, while the Hopeful Stakes and Elms Handijcap were won by Wai-ite, and Lady 1 Rylstone respectively. Wallace's get got away with five races, Mountain King winning the St. Leger and Loch Plate, Scotland the Newmarket Handicap, Mother Goose the Sires' Produce Stakes, and Jack Smith the Autumn Handicap. Mals.ter's was credited with three wins, Alawa. securing the Nursery Handicap and Select Stakes, while The Brewer accounted for the Ascot Vale Stakes. There has all along been a rooted conviction that Grafton's stock were not stayers, but the success of Peru over two and a quarter miles arid three .miles at Flemington will serve to remove some of the prejudice. It will bring to mem&y also that Fitzgrafton won the Brisbane Cup, of two miles, twice m succession (carrying 10. 0 on the second occasion, and m India he was twice successful m the Viceroy Cup (one mile and three-quarters) . In 1906 Inglewbod won ? the Queensland Cup of two miles. Three sons of Grafton, m Fitzgraftoh, Oak Grafton and Inglewood, were successful m the Queensland Leger, run over a distance of one mile and three-quarters. Booran was only narrowly' defeated by Realm m the Australian Cup, and m 1905 Koopan was third m that race to Lord Ullin's Daughter and Dividend, while Grafnell won the V.R.C. Grand National Steeplechase, of three miles and a furlong. These various performances show that Grafton can get long-distance horses. ■ . .
