WATER DEARER THAN BEER.
The Karori and Kelburne Tramway Company is a tough concern, and ought to be ashamed of itself for asMnp passengers threepence every time they pass the turnstiles. It's barjUiced robbery is this threepenny toll, and the company of capitalists, whi.-ii includes a.haberdasher or two m ii;, ought to lie charged 1 with im.posi';i;.r.. Indeed, it ought to be abus?! sou ething awful, and cursed up hi.i ar.d down dale for the exorbitant; charges! made on passengers* It ought to bo pilloried, and the puUir* ouaht to show its independence by boycotting the hill-trotting and using shanks' pony. Hiowev'er, that does not matter so much as does the concern s latest coin-chasing capers. Karori and Kelburne residents just now are feeling the effects of the drought. Tanks are low, and water is as scarce as — well, as scarce as modesty m a brothel, and this is just where the^K and X Koy comes m. ~, They provided the residents with water, and the price paid for it would sink brewery dividends to the bottom of a butt of beer. Indeed, so grasping, so greedy, so rapacious were the demands, that outside influence was brought to bear, and the boodle brigade had to draw m their horns. This company seems to make profit out of the people's sad dilemma, and no doubt if it had not been for- the City Council authorities, the X and X Kqws would have been rooking residents right and left- The greed for gold and the swelling of dividends is a curse indeed. The beastly bludger is the only comparison that can be made sometimes with these rapacious, rooking, moneygrabbing concerns. People want water, but pay dearer for it than if buying beer. '
