♦ Next Saturday on the Basin Reserve will be held the nineteenth championship meeting of New Zealand Amatem- •» tM?lic- Association. Last ar, it will be remembered, the Wellington ri. : i_>;._s_rit_itives won theChampionship Shield, : and this year the Centre selectors, Messrs W. F. Larkin, W. H, Pollock, and C. E. Bridge, have Chosen a formidable team to defend the title to the shield. Among the competitors m the 220 yds, 440 yds, and Half Mile Championships will be the brilliant young Southland runner, W. F. Trembath, who is credited with being aP n\pst as 'good a 22j)yds man as Henderson, -and pretty nearly as good as Burk at the half. 11.- St. A. Murray (of Canterbury) the quarter-mile hurdles champion, will be a certain starter, as also will be C. L. Orbell (of Timaru), the present high-jump fchampion. Orbell 's friends are confident that he will this year break the New Zealand record— of b. Bin.— and with New Zealand record holder, G. P. Kfcddell, competing m the broad jump, and L. McKay m the pole vault, imrmiive enthusiasts have a good day's sport, m store for them. In the Wellington . team are included such fine runners as If. T-Tenderson (100 yds rhamninn)', E. E. Fisher '??ovd s champion), B. Goodbehere, A. Burge, and W. Gosling. A further attraction will be the presence of H. E. K/err, the great exponent of walking. Sports should note, that the first event is timed to start at 2.15 p.m. Programmes will be on sale m the ritv next Friday afternoon.
