The match was played on Thursday and Friday week. Thursday (turned out a drizzling- day, but the teaii^s were anxious to play. : The < game started at ••10.30,^ Wellington .winning the toss took first strike, and when, play stopped by -rairv at 3 o'clock had 7 wickets down for 220. Grace matte 92 out of these rather* luckily and should; have /been out early :in the innings, which .ended for 242. It was no day to judge play, and looked like a one "innings 1 . defeat for Sandtowh, -but .on Friday the weather, was perfect, so was the wicket, des-: pite - the rain. • • • ' ' ■v > : Wanganui didn't- dp- top. well m their first innings (123) and had to follow on, putting 171 up m, the second- hit, leaving Wellington wanting 53 to win. .. Everybody 'expected this to be .wiped- but quick and lively, but it wasn't. It was just about v as exciting a match as one wanted to see.
